Born Jheremy Strom, BoyWithAfro spent most of his younger years living in Mounds View, Minnesota. Then, he went to high school in Wilsonville, Oregon. For college, he moved to South Central Los Angeles where he currently resides. BoyWithAfro's music journey began with beat making in December 2018. On June 1st of 2019, he released his first beat under the name J Storm (later changed to JStormBeats). On July 14th 2019, he released "Internet Cafe" which eventually became the beat for "Pull Up!" by Sad Frosty and DDG, released in April 2020. He continued just producing and mixing until he began to expand his skills. In December 2020, he decided to learn how to record vocals, mix vocals, and master songs in order to put out his own music under the moniker BoyWithAfro. On April 2 2021, he released his first single "Shiver".
